Community honored WWII Veteran
Vicent Shank’s 105th Birthday

for 22 months.
Lt. Shank's POW Camp was freed by
General George Patton and his Tank Di-
vision. At that time the camp had over
100,000 prisoners. Lt. Shank had the
opportunity to meet General Patton be-
fore he delivered a speech to the freed
soldiers. Prior to the war, Vincent Shank
graduated from San Jose State Universi- NV SENATE Page
ty. He was a trumpet player and was in a BILL 303 8
band that performed at the 1933 World's
Fair in Chicago. He would go on to play
in the band that played for the "Rat Pack"
and other famous celebrities. At 27 years
old, Vincent chose to join the Army Air
Corp and do his part to help the United
States win the war.
